Rain Garden Spring 2019 “Spruce-Up”

Rain Garden Spring 2019 “Spruce-Up” at 29th Street and Von Neida Park, Cramer Hill – Camden, NJ

WHEN:
Saturday, May 18, 2019, 9 AM to 1 PM

WHERE:
29th and Tyler streets next to Von Neida Park just off River Road in the Cramer Hill section of Camden.  We will begin our work at the rain gardens on 29th Street and then walk to near-by Von Neida Park. There is street parking and in the lots on Pierce Ave. between North 29th and North 30th Streets - opposite the basketball courts.

WHAT WE WILL DO:
Weeding, mulching and planting trees, shrubs and grasses in a bio-swale stormwater basin. We will also do a quick litter cleanup.

WHY:
Rainwater and melting snow has historically flowed off of surrounding streets flooding the park. The stormwater bio-swale, built by CamdenSMART, now intercepts most of that runoff allowing it to instead infiltrate back into the ground and not flood the park so area residents can enjoy the park more.

WHAT TO BRING:
Dress in layers based on the weather. Make sure to wear long pants and old shoes/sneakers or work boots. We’ll hold the event rain or shine. We’ll provide gloves and tools.
