Energy Master Plan Stakeholder Meetings 5 & 6 - Camden

This is an all hands on deck event in our collective effort towards 100% renewable energy in NJ.

New Jersey is warming due to climate change twice as fast as the average for the continental U.S., according to analysis by the Washington Post.  The New Jersey Record (https://njersy.co/329ijr8) reports that:

  • “Disease-carrying mosquitoes and ticks are an increased threat in New Jersey because they are living longer lives due to extended warm months and mild winters.
  • Some of the state's largest and most popular lakes have been inundated by algae blooms this summer due to an exceptionally wet year and exceptionally warm July.
  • And fish that once swam in abundance off the coast of New Jersey have migrated north in search of cooler waters.”

But you wouldn’t know it by reading the Energy Master Plan that New Jersey has drafted and published for public comment. The lack of urgency is glaring and the concrete steps required to actually meet renewable and clean energy goals are absent.

We need a real plan to avert climate catastrophe and ensure environmental justice, one that includes an immediate moratorium on new fossil fuel projects and immediate and aggressive cuts to existing sources of pollution, with a priority on reducing pollution in our most overburdened communities

The final Public Hearing of the NJ Board of Public Utilities’ plan is September 12th in the Delaware River Watershed.  Please come, and bring your family, friends and neighbors so we will have a strong and united voice calling for a fossil fuel project moratorium and the swift implementation of clean and renewable energy.  We’ll be focusing on the horrendous LNG export terminal proposed for Gibbstown, NJ just south of Camden, the proposed PennEast pipeline and the South Jersey pipelines we all are fighting. You can sign up ahead to make a comment or just join the crowd to swell the ranks. We want a 100% clean energy economy and we need your support to get there!

Just before the public hearing starts, we will hold a rally and press conference outside of the Kroc Center. Please join us!
