Community Public Meeting on Gibbstown LNG export facility

Liquefied Natural Gas Exports from Gibbstown? Come Hear All About It!

Community Public Meeting – Please join us July 10!

A plan to bring Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) by truck and rail to Gibbstown, Greenwich Township, NJ on the Delaware River has been exposed!  The Gibbstown Logistics Center, currently under construction, wants to add LNG to the bulk liquid products they plan to export overseas for sale and they want to greatly increase the hazardous gas exports too.

When:
Wednesday, July 10, 6:30-8:30pm
Where:
Greenwich Township Public Library
411 Swedesboro Rd.
Gibbstown, NJ 08027

Sponsored by Delaware Riverkeeper Network and the EMPOWER NJ coalition

Why: Facts about the plan to truck in dangerous and explosive Liquefied Natural Gas to the Gibbstown Logistics Center to ship it on the Delaware River for sale overseas will be shared and your participation is being sought

Delaware River Partners and New Fortress Energy have applied for permits to triple the number of berths that ships can use from 1 dock with 1 berth to a second dock with 2 additional berths, all playing out on the original site.  They want to bring in 200 to 220 trucks (and also rail cars) every day to Gibbstown so they can increase the amount of Liquefied Hazardous Gas (LHG) they already have approval to export and add the highly dangerous and explosive LNG to the mix.  They plan to load the LNG round the clock directly on to shipping vessels from trucks, each ship taking about 15 days to fill.  In addition, they want to store these enormous amounts of LHG on site, including in the underground cavern, to ship out to markets.

Sound scary? It is. Come learn about the plans, the risks, and what you can do about it.

You have rights to health, safety, clean water and air, as well as your peace of mind and quality of life.  Please come join the discussion about this ill-conceived plan.

NEW INFO! New Fortress Energy has applied for a fast-tracked special permit to the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to move LNG by rail cars, which cannot be done under current safety regulations – and they want to use those rail cars to carry LNG to Gibbstown from hundreds of miles away across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The comment period ends July 8. A sign-on letter by Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR), which many of you may have signed, to PHMSA to extend the public comment period was submitted to the agency. If you want the comment period extended you can tell them by going to the PHMSA Docket at this link: https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=PHMSA-2019-0100-0001 by July 8th. You can submit comments on the proposed Special Permit (NO DANGEROUS AND EXPLOSIVE LNG BY RAIL! PROTECT OUR COMMUNITIES FROM LNG DANGERS!) at this link as well. Health groups and others will be submitting comments. We’ll share news if the comment period is extended. Thank you!
