DEP Public Hearing on Birdsboro Power LLC Natural Gas Power Generation Facility

The PA Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) is holding a public hearing on permitting associated with a natural gas power plant proposed to be built in Birdsboro.

Pending permits on which PADEP is taking comments include: a new 4-mile long 230kV transmission line that will run along the banks of the Schuylkill River from Birdsboro, through Exeter Township, and ending in Robeson Township at a 6-acre substation that will be built in the floodplain; the related water supply line proposed by Reading Area Water Authority to provide the power plant with cooling water; and a 13-mile long natural gas pipeline that will fuel the power plant (to be built by DTE Midstream Appalachia).
