Empower NJ—No Fossil Fuel Projects Public Forum

Empower NJ will be holding another public forum to educate the public about the 13 proposed fossil fuel projects in NJ, their impact to our climate and health, and why Governor Murphy needs to put a moratorium on fossil fuel projects.

The campaign just released critical report on greenhouse gases from the proposed 13 fossil fuel projects. FIGHTING CLIMATE CHANGE IN NJ: The Urgent Case for a Moratorium on all Fossil Fuel Projects is a comprehensive scientific study on the climate impact each fossil fuel project will have on our state. If built, these new projects would increase CO2 and GHG emissions by approximately 32 million metric tons per year or about 32%. The five proposed powerplants, including the Meadowlands powerplant, would increase CO2e emissions from electricity generation by approximately 76% if built.

The Empower NJ- No Fossil Fuel Projects Campaign is a coalition of 58 environmental, citizen, faith, and progressive groups are part of a campaign called . The campaign is calling on Governor Murphy to put a moratorium on new fossil fuel infrastructure until New Jersey has rules and standards in place to achieve our state’s 100% clean energy goals. Some of the groups involved in this campaign are, NJ Sierra Club, Green Faith, Food & Water Watch, Indivisibles, Environment NJ, Blue Wave, People Over Pipelines, Clean Water Action, UU Faith Action NJ, Delaware Riverkeeper Network, Citizen Action and more.
