Native Plant Sale
Saturday, May 3rd
NEW LOCATION SET FOR THIS ANNUAL SALE The Delaware Riverkeeper Network's annual Native Plant Sale will be held Saturday May 3, 2008, 8:00 am-12:00 noon at the Golden Nugget Antique Market, on River Road (Route 29), Lambertville, NJ. This year's sale is at a new location, but will still be offering the same great selection of beautiful plants, ferns, shrubs and trees, all gathered from regional nurseries. By moving the sale to the Golden Nugget, located approximately 2 miles south of Lambertville, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network expects to reach more people and get more native plants out into the community while keeping the sale in the same general region. This sale will offer select native plant species for your garden at affordable prices. Herbaceous plants and ferns will be the highlight of this year's sale. A limited selection of shrubs and trees will also be offered. Delaware Riverkeeper Network stream restoration staff and native plant experts will be on hand to offer advice on choosing, planting, & growing native species. The Golden Nugget is conveniently accessible on River Road and the Delaware Riverkeeper Network sale tables and parking area will be immediately adjacent to River Road. Some of the beautiful plants to be offered include herbaceous perennials such as: Virginia bluebells (Mertensia virginica), dwarf crested iris (Iris cristata), foamflower (Tiarella cordifolia) and creeping phlox (Phlox stolonifera). Shrubs and trees will include blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum), pepperbush (Clethra alnifolia), shadbush (Amelanchier Canadensis) and sweetbay magnolia (Magnolia Virginian). The funds generated from this event will support Delaware Riverkeeper Network activities against continuing threats, such as flood plain development, and emerging issues, such as perfluorooctanoic acid or PFOA water contamination. Show your support for the Delaware Riverkeeper Network by coming out to the Golden Nugget Antique Market, Saturday May 3rd between 8:00 am-12:00 noon. Plant Sale catalog

Paddle a newly free-flowing Schuylkill River with the Delaware Riverkeeper Network
Saturday, May 31
Saturday, May 31 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Leesport, PA to Muhlenberg Township, PA Join the staff of the Delaware Riverkeeper Network to paddle a section of the Schuylkill River that, impounded for nearly two-hundred years, is now free-flowing after a long awaited dam removal. We will be putting in near Leesport and paddling about 8 miles to take out just below the site of the former dam. This stretch of river offers easy riffles and maybe a few small rapids. After we take out, we'll take some time to look over the remnants of the structures associated with the old Schuylkill Navigation System and the landmark Schuylkill River De-silting Project. Pre-registration and PFDs will be required. Participants should also pack a lunch and some thing to drink. We also recommend you dress in wicking fleece (not cotton) for warmth. We will be encouraging folks to bring their own canoes or kayaks, but if people need someone to paddle with them or don't have a canoe, we'll work to accommodate those requests. Please note: We will be limiting the number of participants to keep the feel of these trips somewhat more of a personal experience of the river. We encourage anyone interested to sign up as soon as possible.
There is a small fee for this trip to cover some Delaware Riverkeeper Network coordination costs. The fee for the Schuylkill River trip for members is $15. Contact Chari at chari@delawareriverkeeper.org to sign up.
